Career
Paloma Picasso is an industrial designer as she has designed jewellery, lipstick and perfume. She has designed jewellery for Yves Saint Laurent and Tiffany and Co. She then made her own line, selling designer accessories and perfume. Her jewellery making career started in 1968. Rhinestone necklaces that she made quickly drew in critics and about a year later Yves Saint Laurent wanted her to design jewellery for them. In 1971 she worked for a jewellery company called Zolotas. By 1980 she was designing jewellery for famous and expensive Tiffany & Co. 1984 was when she started experimenting with perfumes and created the perfume "Paloma" for L'Oréal. In 2010 when Tiffany & Co. had their 30th anniversary Paloma made a collection based on Morroco called Marrakesh.
Personal Life
Paloma was born in April 19, 1949, in Vallauris, France. She is the youngest child of the famous artist Pablo Picasso and his wife Franoise Gilot. She was surrounded by artists by a very young age so it's not a surprise that she also has a creative bone in her. In 1978 she married Rafael Lopez-Cambil who is a playwright and director. Paloma Picasso and Rafael Lopez-Cambil were married for 21 years then they divorced in 1999. Picasso later married Dr. Eric Thévenet.
Style of Work
Paloma Picasso has a fascination with the colour red. Red is like Paloma's trade mark. She started loving the colour red at a young age, when she started wearing bright red lipstick at the age of six. The lipstick that Paloma is best known for is "Mon Rouge" which is a dramatic scarlet red. Paloma also does a lot of jewellery made out of gold and sterling silver. The jewellery that she makes is very intricate and detailed with a lot of complex patterns.
